Website from scratch - Dal nulla un sito

How would you build a your website if you could start from scratch? Which will be the logic?
I have to suggest the structure, and therefore the rationale, for a bunch of startups in the area of fashion and for a school and I’d like to share with you some reasoning to get also your suggestions, if you will be so kind to share it with me.

There are two founding principles I believe I have to start from:
1) which is the message I’d like to address to my public (and by the way whom I’d like to talk to?)?
2) what would I like to find in a website of a company like mine if I were a client?

These seem easy question, at least the kind of questions any entrepreneur should be ready to answer promptly. But then again no.

I might have a clear understanding of who I am, and how I want to be perceived by the market, and thus have a straight answer to question nr. 1 but then, trying to answer to the second question can be an head hake.

I’ve learnt from Cristina Mariani that a website should be built in the clients’ dream not mine: no one want to fall on a wibesite stating how good I am, how brilliant is my company  and how creative are my products.
They want to know how much I know about their problems and how I could solve them.
Yes, now: how can I say that to someone looking for a nursery or an high school trying to make a difference? Or for glass jewels?

Here my assumption I’d like to offer to your judgment.

What are parents looking for while choosing a school? Of course they want to know about the timetable, the topics, the quality of the teachers, the specific requirements. I won’t start from these subjects to qualify my homepage. What about the environment, the support that the school could provide to the family to side their efforts in educating their kids, the way the school could provide values to the students. What else?

What a client is looking in a fashion website selling jewels and hand made garment? Are they just looking for comments about fashion or also anything that could be relevant for their lifestyle? In my opinion this web should address directly the goals of these ladies promoting their way of life, giving hints about how to dress –yes- but also how to cook or how to manage a business meeting. Should talk about Italy, if this is the way to position the creations sold in the e-shop connected.

You suggestions are warmly welcomed!

 La versione italiana

Come costruire un sito da zero? Quale logica utilizzare?
